• Clomiphene is a non-steroidal fertility medicine that stimulates the pituitary gland to release hormones required to stimulate ovulation
• Clomiphene may be used to treat women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
• Clomiphene may be used for purposes outside of those referenced on this page

• Usually, clomiphene is taken for 5 days beginning on the 5th day of your menstrual period
• A pelvic exam is required before each treatment cycle
• Ovulation will likely occur 5-10 days after taking clomiphene
• You may be required to take your temperature daily
• Usually, clomiphene is not used for more than 3 treatment cycles
• Store at room temperature away from heat, light, and moisture

General precautions:

• If you use clompehen for more than 3 treatment cycles, your risk of developing an ovarian tumor may increase; consult with your doctor
• Fertility treatment can result in a multiple birth (ie. twins, triplets, etc.) which are higher risk pregnancies; consult with your doctor
• Use caution when driving or doing any activity that requires alertness
• Some women may develop Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), which may be very dangerous

Inform your doctor if you:

• Are planning to breastfeed

Do not use this medication if you:

• Are allergic to clomiphene
• Are pregnant
• Have liver disease
• Have abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Have a thyroid disorder or uncontrolled adrenal gland disorder
• Have ovarian cyst(s) unrelated to PCOS
• Have ever had liver disease
• Have a pituitary gland tumor
• Have endometriosis or uterine fibroids

Cease use and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

• An overdose
• Symptoms of allergic reaction, such as: hives, breathing challenges, swelling in face/lips/tongue/throat
• Symptoms of OHSS, such as: stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, rapid weight gain especially in abdomen and face, little or no urination, painful breathing, rapid pulse, shortness of breath especially while laid down

Cease use and contact your physician immediately if you experience:

• Pain, pressure, or enlargement in the pelvic area
• Vision problems, flashes of light, "floaters," increased sensitivty to light
• Heavy vaginal bleeding

Interactions:

• Clomiphene may interact with other drugs. Always inform your doctor of all known medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, herbs, recreational drugs, and vitamins.
