Trelegy Ellipta is a medication used to improve the symptoms of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and asthma. It contains a combination of fluticasone, umeclidinium, and vilanterol. Together these drugs act as a steroid and bronchodilator to relax the muscles of the airways and reduce inflammation. Trelegy Ellipta is used daily as a long-term inhaler and cannot be used to treat sudden symptoms of an asthma or bronchospasm attack.

Please read the instructions carefully and follow your doctor’s directions

• Wait to open the cover until you are ready to take your dose
• The counter on the inhaler should show the number 30 before the first dose is taken
• Slide the cover down to expose the mouthpiece
• This type of inhaler does not need to be shaken
• Breathe out
• Put the mouthpiece between your lips and take a deep breath through your mouth
• Remove from your mouth and hold your breath for 3 to 4 seconds
• Breathe out gently
• Rinse your mouth with water and spit out the water

Once the inhaler dosage count is below 10, you should get a refill. The counter will show 0 when the inhaler is empty.

Do not use Trelegy if you:

• Have sudden breathing problems
• Have a severe allergy to milk proteins or any of the ingredients of Trelegy
• Take other medications that contain an anticholinergic

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

• A seizure
• A weak immune system
• Liver disease
• Heart disease
• High blood pressure
• A bacterial, fungal, or viral infection caused by parasites
• Diabetes
• A thyroid disorder
• An enlarged prostate
• Osteoporosis

It is not known if Trelegy affects an unborn baby, so inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication is not approved for anyone younger than 18 years old.

Trelegy is known to cause side effects like:

• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Bronchitis
• Headache
• Back pain
• Joint pain
• Inflammation of the sinuses
• Runny nose
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Throat pain
• Cough
• Hoarseness

Tell your doctor right away if severe side effects occur, including:

• Fungal infection in the mouth or throat (thrush)
• Weakened immune system
• Sudden breathing problems
• Bone thinning or weakness (osteoporosis)
• New or worse urinary retention
• Slowed growth in children

How many doses are in Trelegy Ellipta?

There are typically 30 doses in the inhaler, which lasts a patient one month. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a 14 dose inhaler to be used for two weeks. At Canada Med Stop, we also offer a 3-month dose.
